Common Bronzewing
Phaps chalcoptera

These attractively coloured pigeons are one of the commonest birds in Australia and make their home in almost every type of habitat, as long as there is a source of water available. They are usually in small groups or singles and are quite wary of people. They range from 30-36 cm in length, making them a medium-sized pigeon. Their closest relative is the uncommon Brush Bronzewing - apparently (according to my birdwatching friends) I'm one of a very rare group of people that has seen a Brush Bronzewing before seeing the Common...
