Major Mitchell's Cockatoo
Lophochroa leadbeateri

Major Mitchell's Cockatoo is one of the birds I was most hoping to see in Australia. It is a resident of the dry forests and grasslands of the Australian interior, although is not seen away from a source of water. Their nearest relatives are the Sulphur-crested Cockatoo and the Galah. Although not shown here, they have a red crest with a yellow strip running through the centre and deep red-pink under the wings. 35-40 cm.
