Keelback Snake
Tropidonophis mairii

This harmless snake is also known as the Freshwater Snake and can be found in the eastern and northern parts of Australia. They can be quite variable in their appearance, from brown and grey with stripes to yellow. They are named for the way the scales form ridges down the body of the snake. Interestingly, this species can successfully prey on the Cane Toad without harm, unlike nearly all other Australian snakes. 70 cm total length.
