Common Whitethroat
Sylvia communis

One of the more common summer visitors to the UK, the Whitethroat is a small warbler at 13-15 cm in length. Males are more slightly more strongly marked than females, but usually only told apart when the plumage is fresh. As with other Sylvia warblers, their diet is small insects. European birds spend the northern winter south of the Sahara and Asian populations will often migrate to Arabia and Pakistan.
