(Northern) Lapwing
Vanellus vanellus
Also known as Peewits, due to their calls, these
are common winter visitors, although they stay and breed in some numbers, too. They are visible
from a distance when flying due to their ‘black-white-black’ pattern as they flap. They are also
very colourful birds with iridescent sheens to their green plumage.
