(Common) Linnet
Carduelis cannabina
A nice sight of coastal dunes and scrub, often in summer,
is a flock of Linnets hopping from shrub to shrub. The summer males are very smart-looking with a grey head,
chestnut-brown back and a scarlet breast with the females being duller and lacking the red breast. In winter the male's colours are more subdued, as in photo 3.
