Ruddy Duck
Oxyura jamaicensis

The Ruddy Duck is a native of America, but was introduced to Britain . Since then, it has spread to other parts of Europe and has hybridised with White-headed Ducks in Spain. The White-headed Duck is now in danger of becoming extinct as a separate species, so culls of Ruddy Ducks and the hybrids have taken place. The photo on the left is a female Ruddy Duck and on the right is a possible male White-headed Duck escapee or first-generation hybrid.
