(Eurasian) Sparrowhawk
Accipter nisus

Usually a bird of woodlands, it can be found in parks and occasionally gardens, where this one was seen. This is a female, which can be told by the larger body and grey breast (males are smaller with rufous breasts). Their usual prey is small birds, but this one had downed a Wood Pigeon in a friend’s garden and was eating what it could in order to lighten the load of carrying it away.
