(Common) Teal
Anas crecca

A few teal are resident breeders in Britain, but the majority arrive in the winter from Northern Europe. They are the smallest native duck in Britain and tend to form large groups, making small whistles as they dabble in shallow waters. The males are instantly recognisable by their bright head markings, while the females are mottled brown with a characteristic green wing flash.
