Little Egret
Egretta garzetta

The Little Egret is found across much of the old world, being replaced by the Snowy Egret in the Americas. There are three races with Japanese birds being of the nominate race garzetta, which is also found as far away as Europe. They are fairly small at 55-65 cm in length. They stalk small prey in shallow waters, such as fish, amphibians and crustaceans.
