Red-billed Gull (Tarapunga or Akiaki)
Chroicocephalus scopulinus

The Red-billed Gull is a relative of the Silver Gull and occurs around the coastline of New Zealand. They are superficially very similar, but the Red-billed Gull has a darker back and one less 'window' (white patch of feather on black near the wingtip). Another relative, the Black-billed Gull is also a New Zealand endemic, but is more common on the South Island and more inland.
