Stitchbird (Hihi)
Notiomystis cincta

Stitchbirds were all but wiped out after the arrival of introduced predators to New Zealand, apart from one population on Little Barrier Island. Since then, they have increased in number and have been successfully introduced to other safe islands. It was thought that the Stitchbird was a honeyeater, but recent work suggests not, although it is unclear exactly what they are related to.
